Yesterday, our students in grades PK-3 through 2 had the opportunity to gather on a lovely fall morning for an assembly. NY Times best-selling author Laura Numeroff, who has written popular children's stories such as "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie," shared with us all about Max, a service dog being raised by Sam to help people with disabilities. She read "Raising A Hero" and "If You Give A Pig A Pancake", answered our students' questions, and even signed their personal copies of her stories! Thank you to our fabulous PTA for sponsoring this event.
We have had a single positive COVID case reported in 4th grade on Monday afternoon. All students’ families in this student’s class were notified, are home on quarantine as of Monday afternoon, are getting tested for COVID and are following current Dept. of Health and state guidelines. If they have no symptoms and have a negative test result that is sent to our nurse, they may return to school on Friday, October 29th.
The real purpose of Halloween is to celebrate Sainthood. Hallow is the same word for "holy" and e'en is a contraction of "evening". The word Halloween, then, is a shortened form of "All Hallows Eve," the day before All Saints Day. Because Halloween has grown into a major secular holiday in American culture, we may have forgotten that the celebration of Saints is its real purpose. Since St. Paul is a Catholic/ Christian environment, we all have a responsibility to teach about God and what is good and not about evil. As such, we've established a policy about costumes, and we ask that you strictly adhere to this policy.
Last Friday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Mt. Carmel Guild Gala-Beyond the First 100 Years. Honorees included the St. Paul School – 2020-21 Student Council. Christopher Valentino was present to accept the award. John Schwimmer – son of SPS Religion teacher, Mrs. Ann Schwimmer - was honored for organizing community service projects that included a Christmas toy drive and a cereal drive. Ryan & Kyle Grzymala – R&K Toys represented St. Paul Parish by collecting gently used toys and games to give to children in need. Many of these efforts were supported by the St. Paul Community. Our own Jane Chrnelich and Susan Evans were co-chairs of the event.
I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend. Choosing pumpkins and apple picking seemed to be on the agenda! The leaves are just starting to turn. Even with the warm weather, fall is in the air.
Last Friday, students in K-4 were able to attend Mass and bring along a picture of their pet or a small stuffed animal. Please see the picture of Class 2A with Fr. Carlo! It was wonderful to see the children back at Mass.
