An update on the state COVID dashboard issued on May 17, 2021 stated that travel quarantine in NJ was suspended and following that we issued a message to our school community on May 18, 2021.
On May 19, 2021 the NJ Department of Health clarified travel and masking for K-12 that reinstates the former restrictions including: “Unvaccinated students and staff should continue to follow CDC recommendations for quarantine and testing after travel. If they test positive they should isolate and follow COVID-19 exclusion criteria.”
On May 19, 2021 the NJ Department of Health clarified travel and masking for K-12 that reinstates the former restrictions including: While the NJ Travel Advisory is no longer in effect individuals should follow CDC guidance regarding domestic and international travel. For the purpose of this guidance, domestic travel is defined as travel lasting 24 hours or longer to states or US territories other than contiguous states (i.e., Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware).
The Pfizer two step vaccine was given EUA approval by the FDA on May 12, 2021 for ages 12-15. The earliest any student ages 12-15 could receive this vaccine was May 13, 2021. A person is considered fully vaccinated 14 days following a second vaccine. The earliest any student will be considered fully vaccinated is our last day of school, June 17, 2021.
We will continue to follow the state guidelines and CDC travel advisory which applies to all students that attend SPS. Travel outside of the local contiguous state area will require a 10 day quarantine OR a 7 day quarantine with a negative test obtained after day 5. Test results should be sent to our school nurse.
We sincerely apologize for the difficulties these changes present to anyone who made plans after being told the travel quarantine was rescinded. Remote learning will continue to be offered for students who are following the Department of Health post travel quarantine guidelines. We continue to follow COVID guidelines in our school building and on our school property including the use of masks at all times for all staff and students regardless of vaccination status.
Please reach out to our school nurse, Tish Palumbo, with any questions.
We realize that temperatures have been unseasonably warm this week. The temperature tomorrow will be approaching a high of 88 degrees. We are urging all students to wear their gym uniforms tomorrow if possible. Also, please send your child to school with a water bottle.
