Students in our Upper School are encouraged to become increasingly independent. Small classes ensure individualized, differentiated instruction.
A leveled, guided reading program accommodates the needs of each learner and strengthens reading independence. Our writing teachers provide whole group, as well as one on one conferencing to assist each individual student's development as a successful writer. Students undertake critical analysis and formal research in all content areas. Students develop public speaking skills across the curriculum.
Students are ability grouped in mathematics classes and there are 3-4 groups at each grade level to provide focused small group instruction. The majority of students complete Pre-Algebra in 7th Grade and Algebra 1 in 8th grade.
We provide an inquiry based science program which incorporates a 90 minute laboratory session every other week. This session is team taught by our science lab teacher and the classroom teacher biweekly for all students in grades 3-8.
