Today certainly wasn’t the day that any of us had planned on! When I spoke with the Princeton Police very early this morning, they said that at that time, all roads to Princeton were closed. My hope is that you were not severely impacted by the storm and that everyone is safe. For emergency announcements, we use a program called “School Messenger.” You should have received an alert by one or more of the following: a phone call to a land line or cell phone, a text message to a cell phone, or an email. This information draws directly from our Genesis Information System and updates every evening. We also update the website as soon as an alert has been sent. The school website is:spsprinceton.org.... Yesterday was a great start to the school year. It is wonderful to have the students back in the classrooms. We are grateful to have most of our busses back. Once we get the routines of morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal down, it will run smoothly. The rain yesterday didn’t help!
Going forward, we have decided that lunches will again be held in the student’s homeroom. Hard as we tried, there just isn’t any way to seat the students in the cafeteria while observing COVID protocols. As of this writing, the lunch menu isn’t ready for publication. I will inform you of the following:
Tuesday – lunch will be a hot dog, fries, cole slaw, and water
Wednesday – lunch will be a meatball sub, chips, a vegetable, and water
In addition, every day there is an option of a “Bagel Bag” which includes a bagel with butter on the side, yogurt, a cheese stick, and water or a “Cereal Bag” which includes a bowl of Cheerios, white milk, yogurt, a cheese stick, and water.
The cost of all lunches is $4.75. This is an increase of 25 cents. Please check the website over the weekend for a full menu to be posted. If your child is ordering lunch, please place the money or a lunch ticket in a clear zip-loc bag labeled with your child's name. Please include a note of the lunch choice for the little ones.
I would like to thank the Procaccini family (owners of PJ’s Pancake House and SPS grads) for continuing to serve our children and teachers.
Now, please read this important information from our school nurse, Tish Palumbo:
If anyone in a household unit is having a COVID test for reasons of illness, everyone stays home until the test results are back. The nurse needs to know if this is the reason for an absence. The nurse needs to know the test result.
The rules for quarantine are determined by vaccine status. While the vast majority of our students are not yet age eligible, those that are 12 and over and have been vaccinated are asked to send a copy of their child's vaccine card to the nurse. If no vaccine card is received, the student will be considered unvaccinated for reasons of quarantine decisions.
We are following the CDC and NJ Dept. of Health guidelines for post travel quarantine. If you have/are planning travel, please speak with the principal ahead of the travel. No one who has traveled may return to school without discussing quarantine requirements with the nurse.
The nurse does not make decisions about remote learning. That is a decision made by the administration.
I check my email daily, including days that we are not in school. If there is any COVID exposure, illness, or there has been advisement for quarantine or isolation by a health care provider or the department of health, I must be made aware of this as soon as possible, before a student comes to school. Once a positive student or a close contact is already in school, possible exposure to a classroom of students and staff may have occurred causing many to quarantine. We want to avoid this situation whenever possible.
We have all heard the unfortunate news that breakthrough COVID cases are happening with vaccinated people, and the majority of serious illness is occurring to the unvaccinated. This speaks to the importance of staying on top of the known mitigation measures including masking, distancing, and hand hygiene, in addition to getting the vaccine if you are age eligible.
This all takes tremendous dedication from everyone in the SPS family. Our goal is a full year in school with healthy children, healthy staff, and healthy families. Upcoming Walk-In Vaccine Clinics COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all people aged 12 years and older, including people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to get pregnant now, or might become pregnant in the future. The COVID-19 vaccines do not affect your DNA (genetic material) or ability to get pregnant. For a full list of local and regional vaccine clinics visit the municipal website....
